4.1.3 Strength results

The notation for strength follows MIL Handbook 17.

$F_{1t}$. Longitudinal tensile strength. Longitudinal means in the direction of the fiber.

$F_{1c}$. Longitudinal compression strength. Longitudinal means in the direction of the fiber.

$F_{2t}$. Transverse tensile strength. transverse means perpendicular to the direction of the fiber.

$F_{2c}$. Transverse compression strength. transverse means perpendicular to the direction of the fiber.

$F_{4}$. Intralaminar shear strength in the plane perpendicular to the fiber direction (the cross section of the lamina).

$F_{6}$. In-plane shear strength. In-plane means that the surface of the lamina is sheared. The following can be used $F_{5}=F_{6}$.
